Platfall
Overview
Our game will be a time trial based game where the player must
navigate from the start to the finish of each level to progress, while avoiding
falling off of destructible platforms and other obstacles.
At the outset of the game, the player will start on a safe space. Once
they move forward from there, everything is destructible. The platforms can
collapse beneath their feet as they attempt to reach the goal at the other
end of the level. The constant fear of falling and being crushed by objects
will keep the player at bay and always remaining observant of their
surroundings.The levels will not be very long, but there will indeed be many of them
for the player to navigate.
Gameplay
Game play will involve the player getting from the start to finish of
each level without falling or getting crushed. As the player begins their
journey to the goal, the objects will begin to fall in a slower than normal
motion. The environment will have lowered gravity so that objects will
collapse in a slower motion, without affecting the player. As these objects
fall, the player will have the ability to leap on to these objects and get back
on slightly more stable platforms. It gives them a chance to recover and
avoid a level restart. If the player makes it to the end of the level, they will
move on to the next one with a new challenge awaiting them. On
completion, the time the player completed the level in will be saved. When
the player, or their friend come on to play, they will have an additional goal
to achieve on top of surviving the destructible environment.
Game Elements
The game will contain elements that will not only make the first play
through enjoyable, but also the second and next time after just as
entertaining.
The Player
Will be the character the user is controlling. They will be able to run and
jump on obstacles to get to the goal and keep themselves from falling.
Destructible Environment
Everything is destructible, which makes the game that much more
challenging. They will fall at decreased speed to make the levels less chaotic,
and give the player a more satisfying way of winning each level.
Time Records
Once the player completes a level, a time record will be saved to that
specific level. It will remain there until the same or different player come in
and beat that time.
Boulders and other Obstacles
On some levels, various obstacles will have the potential to play a role in the
player’s success or failure. These obstacles could be boulders rolling in and
hitting the map or player. Another could be the player having to jump and
run on moving objects.
Platform
Our target platform is for the PC right now; there will be no version on
the Xbox or PlayStation consoles at this time.
