Spell It Out!
Goal:
To obtain one of each category tile (6), or 12 total tiles to win the game.
Equipment:
1 - Six sided number die
22 - Letter dice
1 - Large Tray
1 - Container for Letter dice
1 - Timer
4 - Pieces of Paper
12 of each - Category Tiles
16 - Objective Cards
4 - Pencils
Set Up:
Sit three to four players around a square or round table with the large tray in the middle. Have the “Category Tiles” and “Objective Cards” laid out on the table in their own piles. Put the container of letter dice, the timer and the single number die on the tray. Hand a piece of player and a pencil out to each player.
Rules & Gameplay:
To determine who goes first, the person who has a first name that comes first in the alphabet will go first, and it will go clockwise from there.
A dice roll on the six sided number die will determine what category the players will do.
Categories are as follows with their correlating numbers:
The player going will then flip two “Objective Cards”. These cards are an additional challenge the players must meet in order to obtain a “Category Tile”.
Once the cards are flipped, the player will then dump the container of lettered blocks onto the large tray. Once all the blocks are all flat on the tray not stacked up on each other, then the player will start the 60 second timer. All players will have this amount of time to find words based on the Category Card and the two Objective Cards. Once the time is up, players will put their pencils down and share what they found. Whoever meets the Objective Card requirements will obtain a Category Card for each objective met. Once this turn is over, then it is the next player’s turn.
Category Card “WILD CARD”:
The “Wild Card” Category means players have no constraints. They can spell out whatever word that they want for that turn.
Obective Cards:
These are the requirements for the player to obtain a Category Tile. The Objective Cards flipped could be “Longest Word” and “Starts with…”. The players must meet those requirements while playing with the current Category Card.
Settling Ties:
If players find themselves in a tie for any of the Objective Cards, they will go into a single tie breaker round. There are no word constraints, players can try to find any kind of word that they want. If there are separate ties for each Objective Card (two different people for each one), the tie breakers will happen at the same time. The current player’s turn will put the letter blocks back in the container and reroll them. Only players settling a tie will have 30 seconds to find the longest word possible. At the end of the timer, whoever wins gets the Category Tile originally rolled for the current turn. If there is another tie, then no one wins a tile and the game moves on.
